Smash Mouth is paying tribute to co-founder Steve Harwell seven months after his unexpected death at 56.
On April 12, the former frontman, who died from liver failure at his home in September 2023, will be honoured with the US band’s first single since his death.
The new song, Ride On, will be released on the 30th anniversary of the band’s formation in 1994.
A preview was posted to their Instagram today.

Smash Mouth bassist Paul Gerald DeLisle explained the composition in a statement.
“We wrote it as a continuation of our 2001 hit single, ‘Pacific Coast Party,’ with a similar good-vibe feel,” it read.
“It’s a very Smash Mouth-California style of rock/disco custom song made just for summer, a respectful and loving homage to Pablo Cruise.”

The new song was written by DeLisle vocalist Zachary Goode, guitarist Sean Hurwitz, drummer Randy Cooke, and keyboardist Michael Klooster.
It is set to be the soundtrack to their summer tour, which begins on April 19 with a performance at the Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan.
The band will continue their tour across the states until August 20, and it is scheduled to stop in places such as California, New York, and Arizona.
The news of Harwell’s death last year came as a shock to fans.

“Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle,” Smash Mouth manager Robert Hayes told 9honey Celebrity.
“Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom.
“And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable.
“His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones.”
The band said that Harwell “lived a 100% full-throttle life burning brightly across the universe before burning out.”
