SAUGATUCK — The Saugatuck Public Schools Board of Education is looking to appoint a new trustee after a longtime board member resigned at the end of October.
Nathan Lowery, who’s served on the board since 2015, resigned Oct. 29 after moving out of the district, according to Superintendent Tim Travis. Lowery’s nine years on the board included several as board president, including during the district’s successful 2020 bond effort.
“His public service to the district over an extended period of time is both rare today and greatly appreciated,” Travis wrote in an email to The Sentinel.
The district is now seeking applicants to serve the remainder of Lowery’s elected term. Any registered voter age 18 or older within district boundaries is eligible.
Interested individuals should send a letter of interest, including qualifications and why they’re seeking the position, to board president Laura Zangara by 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12. Letters can be sent by email to spsboard@saugatuckps.com or by mail to PO Box 818, 201 Randolph St. in Douglas, MI, 49406.

Board members will interview candidates and appoint a new member during a regularly scheduled board meeting Monday, Nov. 20. The person appointed will serve the remainder of Lowery’s term, which expires in December 2024.
