Russell T Davies Confirms Doctor Who Spinoff Filming Has Wrapped With BTS Photo
Russell T Davis has confirmed that The War Between the Land and the Sea has finished filming. The War Between the Land and the Sea is a Doctor Who spinoff series. Its plot focuses on a multinational war that is caused by the return of the Sea Devils, and is said to feature UNIT and more. The War Between the Land and the Sea features a leading cast including Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Russsell Tovey, George Robinson, Jemma Redgrave, Patrick Baladi, Ruth Madeley, and Colin McFarlane.
Now, Davies has announced the conclusion of filming for The War Between the Land and the Sea.
Davies announced that the Doctor Who spinoff had wrapped filming through a simple selfie posted on Instagram. In the caption, he wrote “That’s a wrap! THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA ends its shoot today after 80 days!” He also thanked the cast and crew of the show and boasted that “this show is going to be astonishing.”
What This Means For The Release Date For The War Between The Land And The Sea
The Show Should Come On Time
As Davies alludes to in his post, the filming process for The War Between the Land and the Sea was fairly expedient. The start of production was announced just this summer. It took them less than three months to film the series, showing that there is a lot of support for the series. With a production that swift, there must be a significant team behind the Doctor Who spinoff series, boding well for the quality of the show.
Ncuti Gatwa’s second season of
Doctor Who
is also set for release next year.
Part of why the filming was pretty quick is likely due to the fact that The War Between the Land and the Sea is only a five-episode miniseries. This is shorter than a typical season of Doctor Who, whose most recent installment was an eight-episode season. Still, the speed with which the BBC team is handing The War Between the Land and the Sea suggest the series is in good standing to arrive in time for its expected 2025 release date.
Our Take On The Doctor Who Spinoff News
Davies Update Is Cautiously Optimistic
While Davies does not say anything specific about the series, it is hopeful to see the creator so positive about The War Between the Land and the Sea. After all, he is responsible for revitalizing the franchise for the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, which were released to positive reception last year. That said, Doctor Who is in a bit of a rocky standing after the Ncuti Gatwa season left fans with mixed response. With ample resources being poured into it, hopefully The War Between the Land and the Sea does not fall into any undesirable plot traps.
