Russell Peters’ Comedy Special ‘Act Your Age’ Bought For Distribution – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Fledgling producer-distributor Parmar Entertainment has acquired global rights to Russell Peters’ comedy special Act Your Age in what we hear was a seven-figure deal.

The special was taped at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena on November 23 and covers issues such as cancel culture, ageing and the current geopolitical state of the world, and includes Peters’ signature crowd work.

The show was the last stop of the Emmy-winning comic’s world tour which spanned 23 countries and 375 shows.

The deal was negotiated by Parmar Entertainment’s Daljit DJ Parmar and CPI Pictures’ Clayton Peters. Parmar said the company plans to “make a big splash in the streaming space” with the project.

The special was directed by Peters’ brother and manager Clayton, produced by CPI Pictures and Parmar Entertainment, and line-produced by SXG Films. Executive producers include Russell Peters, Clayton Peters, Paul Canterna, David Higby, Keshav Purushot, and Daljit DJ Parmar.

Privately-backed Parmar Entertainment recently announced a production funding deal with Beacon Media which will see comedian and actor Peters starring in a commercial comedy for the companies. Parmar Entertainment says it also has a slate of projects in the works and will look to distribute content.

Daljit DJ Parmar, an executive producer on 2017 Jackie Chan film Kung Fu Yoga, recently joined Canadian distributor levelFILM as CEO.

“Russell is the most iconic global comedian in the world,” claimed Daljit DJ Parmar about the comic who was the first to score a comedy special with Netflix. “We are planning to disrupt the stand-up comedy industry and make a big splash in the streaming space with Act Your Age at the helm.”

“We’re excited to enter into this partnership with DJ and Parmar Entertainment,” said Clayton Peters of CPI Pictures and Management. “We have ambitious plans for the distribution of Act Your Age as well as other stand-up properties from around the world.”

Peters is repped by CPI Management, Seven Summits Management, UTA and attorney Dale de la Torre.
