Unabomber Ted Kaczynski killed three people and injured 23 others in a mail bombing campaign between 1978 and 1995. However, Janus Metz’s Unabom will cover Kaczynski’s early years as a Harvard mathematician, which could have led to his dark decisions later. Currently in production, Russell Crowe and three additional actors have joined the Netflix Unabomber movie, with its main star now revealed.
The Netflix title Unabom comes from the FBI’s code name for Ted Kaczynski’s case, standing for “UNiversity and Airline BOMbing.” According to Netflix Tudlum, Unabom follows the true story of Kaczynski’s change from a Harvard prodigy to a reclusive murderer. An FBI agent investigates the lone wolf terrorist decades after learning he was a subject in Professor Murray’s psychology experiments. Director Janus Metz got real about what drew him to tell the real-life chilling story:
“I was fascinated by the fact that the hunt for the Unabomber was the FBI’s longest and most expensive operation to date,” said the Andor director. “But what really drew me in was the story about Ted Kaczynski’s years at Harvard when he was a young math student. This was a side to the story I didn’t know about; it helps uncover a very dark chapter in American history.”
Russell Crowe will be taking on the role of Professor Henry Murray, who was Kaczynski’s psychology professor at Harvard.
Who will be joining Russell Crowe in the Netflix Unabomber movie?
Other than Russell Crowe, a lot of prominent talent will be joining Unabom. The Descendants’ Shailene Woodley will play FBI agent Joanne Miller, who’s tasked with hunting down Ted Kaczynski. Peaky Blinders’ Annabelle Wallis will play Christiana Morgan, Professor Murray’s academic partner and co-director of the Harvard Psychological Clinic.
As for who will play the Netflix movie’s main star, Room’s Jacob Tremblay will play the young Ted Kaczynski. Janus Metz had lots of positive things to say to Tudlum about Tremblay’s performance in the upcoming movie:
“Jacob Tremblay is an immensely talented young actor,” said Metz. “He has a sensitivity that feels perfect for my vision of Ted when he was a young student at Harvard. There’s a vulnerability and intelligence to Jacob’s look and performance that this story needs. I was convinced that Jacob was right for the part after our first conversation, and it has been a huge pleasure to now finally be able to do the work and hone in on the character with him.”
With filming ongoing now, keep checking in for when Unabom makes its official release date.
