Rockstar is very well-known for being the ones behind Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and much more. However, Rockstar has released some games that are rather obscure in comparison. For example, Rockstar Toronto released a game adaptation of The Warriors, a film released in 1979.
The game released on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2005, followed by a PlayStation Portable release in 2007. However, you may be surprised to hear that, according to what a former Rockstar Games employee who wished to remain anonymous said to Time Extension, the game was going to receive a port on the Game Boy Advance.
Rockstar Leeds were the ones that were originally working on the Game Boy Advance port of the game, and it was going to use the same engine as Remedy Entertainment’s Max Payne. Not only was the project done with development, but it was actually ready for release. Unfortunately, the port was cancelled in 2005. There is a copy of this version of the game that exists, but apparently it will never be released due to the owner not being able to share it.
So, why was it cancelled? According to Time Extension’s sources, during the time that the team was working on it, “that’s when the PSP was gaining momentum and we weren’t really seeing good returns on Nintendo. Nintendo at the time didn’t like promoting M-rated games. We were comfortable in Sony land, so we went with The Warriors direct port on PSP”.
