Robin’s New Costume Confirms the 1 Hero Who Trusts Him More Than Batman

Warning! Spoilers for Absolute Power: Super Son #1!Batman is a deeply paranoid man, but Robin has always been the one hero he’s trusted over almost all others. Batman trained Robin and has no issue taking him onto the field, but there’s one hero who trusts Robin even more than Batman, as suggested by Damian Wayne’s strange new costume courtesy of Superman Jon Kent.

The one hero who trusts Robin even more than Batman, is, of course, none other than Jon Kent, which is made perfectly clear in a preview for Absolute Power: Super Son #1 by Sina Grace, Nicole Maines, John Timms, and Travis Mercer. After the events of Absolute Power by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Jon is recovering from being taken over by Amanda Waller’s Brainiac Queen, and he reveals just how deeply he trusts Damian – even if he does cast Robin, in a new costume, as his imaginary limo driver.

Damian and Jon have a long history together, so it’s no surprise that when Jon needs someone to tell him to wake up from the mind control Waller had put him under, it’s Damian that he imagines instead of his other friends or family.

Superman Jon Kent Trusts Damian Wayne with His Entire Reality

Just like their fathers, Damian and Jon have made an amazing team for years and have become the best of friends. While they initially started out as rivals, they quickly found some more friendly footing to stand on. Ever since, they’ve been the only person they could truly rely on for one another. When Damian was going through issues with Batman, it was Jon he turned to and talked with. Likewise, after Jon returned several years older, now a teenager instead of an elementary-aged kid, Damian was one of the few characters who didn’t treat him any differently.

Super Sons
series by Peter J. Tomasi and Jorge Jiménez, available now both digitally and in collected editions from DC Comics.

It makes perfect sense that in his moment of need, Jon would think of the one character who has never let him down. Damian has always been there for him and always supported him. As amazing as Jon’s father is, there have been times that Superman has let Jon down, such as allowing Jon to go off on a wild space adventure that resulted in him being tortured for years. There have been moments that Jon has had friction with his father, but almost never with Damian – not after overcoming their initial rivalry – and this new preview proves just how much Jon truly trusts Damian, as his subconscious goes to Damian over anyone else.

Robin Damian Wayne and Superman Jon Kent Will Always Be the Super Sons

This Is a Life-Long Friendship

Jon has made plenty of friends during his time as Superman – including Dreamer, who also appears in this preview – but none of those friends were part of the Super Sons like Damian was. It gives Damian a unique connection with Jon that no other character has, and Jon imagining Damian as this chauffeur – who guides him to where he needs to go – is perfectly symbolic of just how important Damian is to him. No matter what happens or how allegiances change, the one thing that will always be true is that Superman Jon Kent and Robin Damian Wayne are best friends, and they trust each other more than anyone else.

Absolute Power: Super Sons #1 is available September 18th, 2024 from DC Comics!
