Dorit Kemsley opened up about her separation from Paul “PK” Kemsley following a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that saw her discussing his sponsor’s involvement.
After fans watched as Dorit, 48, confirmed it was actually PK’s sponsor who suggested they take time off from their marriage, she admitted to co-star Bozoma Saint John, 48, that she would’ve liked to have had a say in the decision as she also shared how son Jagger, 10, and daughter Phoenix, 8, have been handling their new family dynamic.
“I felt totally blindsided,” Dorit admitted on the RHOBH: After Show. “Well, [PK’s sponsor] sort of said it like, ‘I think the best thing for you guys is to take some time apart.’”
“Why did his sponsor need to say it?” asked Bozoma. “With all due respect, the sponsor is supposed to advise him on his sobriety, okay? Now, you enter our sacred marriage? And you want to tell me what we should do? Oh, absolutely not.”
According to Dorit, PK’s sponsor was his friend first, which blurred the lines between them.
“It was the new stages of his sobriety, so [PK] was working with his sponsor every day, and I was really, really grateful because he really helped PK,” she explained.
Then, when Bozoma noted that she still had “a problem with it,” Dorit agreed and confirmed she and PK had spoken of a separation before.
“It’s the 700th time … it was thrown around so easily and so quickly that it lost its strength,” she shared.
Because she and PK share two kids, Dorit said their breakup was an especially “huge decision,” and she admitted it “would’ve been nice to have been included in the decision.”
As for where she and PK stand with his sponsor today, Dorit confirmed he is no longer a part of their marriage discussions — and no longer working with PK after he “overstepped” by interfering with their parenting.
“[PK] was unaware that he had gotten involved and was very upset about it, so he decided to change sponsors. Kept him as a friend, but changed sponsors,” she revealed.
During another segment of the RHOBH: After Show, Dorit revealed how Jagger confronted her after learning of her and PK’s separation.
“We were walking the dogs one night and he said, ‘Mommy, are you and Daddy divorced?’” she recalled. “And I said, ‘No.’ [And then] I said, ‘You know, Jagger, sometimes two people need some time apart even though they love each other very much, and most importantly, Daddy and I love you and your sister more than anything in this world and nothing will change.’”
At the moment, Dorit was doing her best to gauge Jagger’s curiosity to see how much she should reveal.
“So after that, the follow-up question was, ‘Okay, but you will tell me if you were divorced?’ And I said to Jagger, ‘I would tell you way before Daddy and I divorced.’ So that was enough for him,” she explained. “If I’m being totally honest, I think, all these months later, as long as they see PK and I okay together … that’s truly what would make things easier for them.”
“[And] when they want to know more, they are going to ask specific questions. And because they’re not, I feel like they almost don’t really want a lot of detail,” she added.
