However, there are two main reasons for this — the 35th season arriving first, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes meaning a general lack of promotion of in-development projects throughout 2023. However, with season 35 in the books and the 2023 Hollywood strikes already fading into memory, it’s only a matter of time before news begins to surface regarding The Simpsons season 36.

The Simpsons has been renewed for season 36. The renewal announcement came in January 2023 when Fox confirmed they’d greenlit The Simpsons for two seasons, which would extend the run of the show into 2025. Though season 36 is the second and final season in Fox’s most recent renewal, there’s no reason to think the network won’t order more.

More Simpson Family Hijinks Are Coming Soon

There haven’t been any details revealed yet about the episodes in The Simpsons season 36. The show has been going on so long that the episode plots are unpredictable, but it might rehash or revisit former storylines (while being self-aware and lambasting itself for doing so, of course). While The Simpsons revisiting former episodes is always a risk, the show has been going so long that it’s inevitable plots focused around callbacks to stories from literally decades ago are going to appear, and the 36th season is no exception.

It’s expected that The Simpsons season 36 will feature Treehouse Of Horror XXXV, the popular Simpsons Halloween special, though nothing’s been teased about which popular horror movies the citizens of Springfield will parody in The Simpsons season 36. It’s possible that The Simpsons season 36 will also bring back some former characters from the extensive history of the show for some new storylines.

The Simpsons is a long-running animated TV series created by Matt Groening that satirically follows a working-class family in the misfit city of Springfield. Homer, a bit of a schmoe who works at a nuclear power plant, is the provider for his family, while his wife, Marge, tries to keep sanity and reason in the house to the best of her ability. Bart is a born troublemaker, and Lisa is his super-intelligent sister who finds herself surrounded by people who can’t understand her. Finally, Maggie is the mysterious baby who acts as a deus ex machina when the series calls for it. The show puts the family in several wild situations while constantly tackling socio-political and pop-culture topics set within their world, providing an often sharp critique of the subjects covered in each episode. This series first premiered in 1989 and has been a staple of Fox’s programming schedule ever since.
