Remakes of AMERICAN PSYCHO and THE DEAD ZONE Are Both in Development — GeekTyrant

In news that isn’t news at all, Hollywood is out of new ideas, and they are remaking not one, but two classic movies. According to The InSneider (via World of Reel), the American Psycho remake will follow Harron’s 2000 film, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, which starred Christian Bale in one of his wildest and most charismatic and psychotic roles, as 1980s Wall Street sociopath Patrick Bateman. Lionsgate is currently searching for a writer to reboot the film for the modern age, with a fresh new take on the character.

David Cronenberg’s 1983 film The Dead Zone was based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, and it starred Christopher Walken as a man who awakens from a coma to discover he has a psychic ability to foresee future events.

Both of these films were great, and neither of them need a remake. We, as viewers, are desperate for some new material, and the sad part is that there are writers and filmmakers out there with original ideas, but studios are more likely to bet on something that has already worked instead of something new.

Would you want to see updated versions of either of these movies?
