Scream! was a short-lived British weekly anthology comic published by IPC Magazines between March and June 1984. While a few years after the immense media and public outcry of IPC’s controversial Action, the increasing public concern for “video nasties” and pressure groups like Mary Whitehouse’s National Viewers’ and Listeners’ Association meant that the publisher quickly developed cold feet and soft-cancelled the title, merging it into their revival of the Eagle comic. Despite only running for 15 issues the comic still holds a passionate fanbase. In May 2024 Rebellion released the 40 Years of Scream!, a 464-page hardcover which collected all fifteen issues, which has already sold out on their website.

The Scream! special follows in the wake of other successful revival one-shots of British classic anthologies – with this year alone featuring a Gail Simone-headed Misty, and a successful Kickstarter campaign for a special contemporary reimagining of romance title Roxy. And that’s not forgetting the just released third series of Garth Ennis’ revival of war comic anthology Battle Action.
