Ralph Macchio And Jackie Chan Join Forces For A New Karate Kid Movie

Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are both starring in a new Karate Kid film, which has kicked off a global search for the next Karate Kid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the feature is as yet untitled. Johnathan Entwistle, best known for his work on TV with I’m Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World, is set to direct. Rob Lieber wrote the screenplay. The film will reframe the franchise on the east coast of the US and follow a teenager from China who trains with a tough but wise mentor. Further details are still unknown.

A brief video with Macchio and Chan announces the film and directs interested parties to a website where they can view casting details and instructions for submitting an application. Macchio was the star of the first three Karate Kid films and reprised his role in the television show Cobra Kai, which was recently renewed for a sixth and final season. How or whether this new film will involve the events and cast of Cobra Kai is yet unknown. Jackie Chan starred in a franchise reset with Jaden Smith back in 2010 and will reprise his role as Mr. Han in the new film.

Sony has set a tentative release date of December 13, 2024 and the film will likely shoot in the spring.
