  • The cliffhanger ending of episode 8 leaves viewers with unanswered questions about what comes next.

After that huge Ben twist, cast members from Quantum Leap are teasing the rest of season 2. The NBC series, built around the disappearance of Dr. Sam Beckett, follows Ben Song (Raymond Lee) and a group of researchers who attempt to resume the Quantum Leap project. Along with Lee, the Quantum Leap cast also includes Caitlin Bassett (Addison Augustine), Mason Alexander Park (Ian Wright), Ernie Hudson (Herbert “Magic” Williams), Nanrisa Lee (Jenn Chou), Eliza Taylor (Hannah Carson), and Peter Gadiot (Tom Westfall). Ben’s time-traveling continued in Quantum Leap season 2, an issue that spanned multiple years, but episode 8, “Nomads,” offered a new update surrounding the possibility of his return.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, the cast of Quantum Leap discussed season 2’s future. Park and Hudson noted uncertainty about the story but admitted their characters would be happy to see Ben, while Nanrisa Lee added: “It would pretty drastically change the format of the show.” However, all three expressed confidence in the writers and interest in whatever direction they chose. Read more comments from the cast regarding Quantum Leap season 2 below:

Park:If Ben is back, we’re unemployed. Obviously, as the characters, we all want to see resolution with that story line. We’ve been working years and years — especially with the time jump — to bring this individual back. I could probably speak for all of us to say that as characters we want Ben back. As an actor, I would like to make more episodes. So I’m sure that [the writers room] has plans that I’m really excited about for all the various ways in which the show is going to continue from this to the season finale, which I think is really, really rad.

Hudson:It’s what we come into [with] trusting the producers and the writers team. We all definitely as characters really want [Ben to come back], but I’m also trusting that they have looked further ahead. As we were saying, we like the surprise of what comes next. And if Ben’s back, I’m sure it’s going to be very interesting. I’m excited about the possibility and I’m sort of taking it all in one episode at a time. But the possibilities are just all out there.

Lee: It would pretty drastically change the format of the show. But if it did happen, I am sure our writers would find some really fun and interesting ways to develop that and maybe get another leaper out there.

What Ben’s Return Could Mean For Quantum Leap’s Future?

The Quantum Leap season 2 premiere revealed that Ben’s efforts to return home were unsuccessful. As time elapsed, it appeared he might be stuck jumping from body to body, but Tom suggested there was still a way to bring Ben back. Though it hasn’t been revealed, he confirmed that an idea was recovered from a hard drive related to the DARPA project. It’s also worth mentioning that the preview of Quantum Leap‘s upcoming episode references Ben and his ability to come home.

If Ben does return to the present day, it’s hard to imagine what Quantum Leap would focus on since, as Nanrisa Lee mentioned, the show’s basis would change. Aside from the time jumps and no longer experiencing strangers’ lives or past incidents, the NBC show would likely have to address the relationship between Ben and Hannah. Considering their history, Ben’s return may also create tension with Addison and affect her romance with Tom.

It’s interesting to hear what the cast thinks of that huge Ben twist from season 2 and how they would be open to the idea of Lee’s character going home. In particular, the execution of the twist could determine whether season 3 is in stores for Quantum Leap. For now, episode 8 provided an effective cliffhanger, leaving questions about what happens next when the show picks back up.

While a specific date hasn’t been given, Quantum Leap season 2 will return to NBC sometime in 2024.
