Prince Harry is going to have to do a lot to prove himself if he wants to reconcile with Prince William.
When Harry rushed to the UK to be by his father King Charles III‘s side following his cancer diagnosis announcement, a palace source was quick to confirm the battling brothers had “no plans” to see each other. But according to People on Thursday, it’s believed Harry DID reach out to William as he truly wants to reconcile — but his attempts to reconnect went nowhere. Oof.
Seemingly defending William’s choice to blow off his younger brother, a former courtier claimed the Prince of Wales’ “principal concern is his wife” Princess Catherine as she recovers from surgery, which we get! But this would have been a natural way for the Spare author to attempt to visit with the Wales family. Yet the fact that he made little effort to be there for his sister-in-law proves this feud has gotten way worse than anyone could’ve imagined! And, sadly, there’s no end in sight… unless one of the brothers stops being so stubborn.

Addressing the tense situation, a source close to the royal household told the outlet:
“It would be the normal run of things to go and see your sister-in-law who’s had a serious operation and also see your niece and nephews. But it isn’t normal. It’s terribly sad.”
Catherine Mayer, author of the biography Charles: The Heart of a King, added:
“The family torment is an open sore. There is such a profound breach there.”
Again, this lack of trust was on full display when Harry and Charles met up briefly for an approximately 30-minute visit (in which Queen Camilla had to fight to be included against her stepson’s wishes) — all because nobody in The Firm wants to give him or Meghan Markle any more ammunition or hot tea for their tell-all projects! Royal biographer Robert Lacey continued:
“This is all to do with William’s wish to protect the institution of the monarchy, which he feels Harry can’t be trusted with. I don’t think William will ever agree to readmission of Harry into the family unless he clearly apologizes and moves forward.”
And yet, Harry has also been waiting for an apology from his family for the way they treated him and Meg! So, this is a real stand-off!
Interestingly, the father of two might get the chance to prove his loyalty in May when he’s expected to be in the UK for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. But if the past is any indication, just being in the same zip code won’t be enough to get them to reconcile! And it’s doubtful His Majesty will do anything to mediate any healing between the feuding siblings at this point. No matter how much he wants things to go back to normal, Ingrid Seward shared:
“Of course he would like Harry to be the prodigal son and come back and would be much happier if William and Harry were friends again. But he realizes that is just not about to happen.”
Trying to downplay the family rift, a palace insider simply chimed in:
“Families are complicated. They may be a high-profile family, but they still have a lot of the same issues as everyone else.”
And yet the rift has never looked as dire as it does now during these medical emergencies! And if Harry apologizing is the only way William will let him back into the fold, well, things may never get better. Oof. Reactions? Let us know (below)!
