Pride at the beach hits The Oceanfront

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Pride at the beach hit The Oceanfront on Sunday.

Jeff Ryder, Hampton Roads Pride president said the event drew large crowds.

“I think we’re probably over a couple thousand now,” Ryder said. “So, this has been our biggest Pride at the beach I believe so far.”

The event has something for everyone including: live music, community vendors, food trucks and more.

10 On Your Side asked one attendee what she was looking forward to the most.

“The drag performances, definitely the drag performances always,” Virginia Beach resident Felicia Flores said. “… I think especially to show that representation matters and for young people to have a safe space, to be in a supportive environment with elders and the LGBTQ community.”

Not one person looked the same, Ryder said that’s the beauty of the community.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office also took photos attending the event.

“Yesterday was Pride fest,” Ryder said. “Our headliner there was Todrick Hall and he made a comment during his set that it was one of the most diverse pride celebrations he’s been to. We’re continuing that here today in Virginia Beach.”

City council members at the event announced that money for next year’s Pride at the Beach event is already in the budget.
