ORLANDO, Fla. – A police officer was caught over the weekend working with a woman to steal from a Walmart, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested Haines City police officer David Griffin and Shelbi Dubois at a Walmart store on Saturday.
Investigators said Griffin resigned immediately from the Haines City police department after his arrest.
According to a news release, Griffin and the woman were spotted by a Walmart employee as they were bagging up items they had not scanned.
Deputies said the employee pointed out to them that they had not scanned some items. The pair scanned the items, but once the employee left, a news release says they continued to load their bags without scanning.
Investigators said they pulled security footage and looked into Griffin’s debit card history and found that he had pulled a similar scheme on four other dates starting in October.
Griffin faces five counts of retail petit theft while Dubose faces four counts of the same charge.
Year-round school? Brevard County to discuss pilot program proposal
School leaders in Brevard County are set to take up a controversial issue of whether to move to year-round school.
At this point, it’s unclear what the proposal would look like, however, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill earlier this year green lighting a year-round school pilot program.
Districts have to apply if they want to be part of the four-year test, which is set to start next year.
The board will discuss the plan during its 2 p.m. workshop meeting in Viera, ahead of the regular 5:30 p.m. school board meeting.
No final decision will be made at the meeting.

SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy, Falcon 9 delayed; dashes hope for double-dip of rocket launches
SpaceX could try again tonight to get two rockets off the ground from the Cape.
On Monday night, the company was planning on launching a Falcon Heavy rocket with the military’s largely secret X-37B space plane on board but that ended up getting scrubbed because of what the company called a “ground side issue.”
SpaceX also delayed another Falcon 9 Starlink launch.
For the moment, both are set to blast off tonight with the Heavy liftoff at 8:14 p.m. followed by the Falcon 9 at 11:02 p.m.
If the launches happen, you can watch them live on News 6 and here on ClickOrlando.com.
