Pegamoose Press launches Kickstarter for Emmy winner Nick Cross & Marlo Meekins’s ORCHARD OF THE TAME

Boutique comics publisher Pegamoose Press, founded by comic book creative couple Troy Little and Brenda Hickey, has launched a Kickstarter for its latest graphic novel—and it’s hugely inspired by some of the best animated series of the last decade. Entitled Orchard of the Tame, the graphic novel marks the comics debut of Emmy Award-winning animator Nick Cross, who’s teamed up with his wife, cartoonist Marlo Meekins.

Orchard of the Tame is a black-and-white fantasy epic inspired by classic fairy tales. The story follows River Siren, a young girl who escapes imprisonment by an abusive retch and learns about the world and herself through gaining her freedom. The book was originally self-published in digital format by Cross and Meekins last year.

Through its Kickstarter campaign, Pegamoose Press is publishing Orchard of the Tame in print for the first time.

“Nick and Marlo are just brilliant creatives, so when we heard they had created a graphic novel we just had to see it,” said Little in a statement. “Needless to say, we were totally blown away! For the first time we seriously considered growing our imprint because this book just had to be in print. Luckily for us, they were onboard, and we couldn’t be more excited!”

Co-publisher Hickey added, “We are such fans of Marlo and Nick’s work. It’s the type of quirky and offbeat graphic novel that inspires us and makes us want to rush back to the drawing board to work on our own books. We hope everyone checks it out and enjoys it as much as we do.”

Orchard of the Tame is live on Kickstarter until March 31. In addition to standard reward tiers including a limited edition hardcover and add-ons like original art pages and previous Pegamoose Press titles, there is also an early bird special for backers who support the project in the first 24 hours.
