Original Jurassic World Actor Addresses Potential Jurassic World 4 Return

Summary

  • Robinson is open to reprising his role in Jurassic World 4 and thinks Zach is likely still in therapy.
  • Legacy characters like Zach and others may not return for Jurassic World 4, as it is reportedly a reboot.
  • The franchise aims to explore new ideas and themes by not bringing back familiar faces in the developing sequel.

Jurassic World actor Nick Robinson reveals whether he will return for Jurassic World 4. In the 2015 sequel, Robinson played Zach Mitchell, the older nephew of Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), the park operations manager of Jurassic World. The Jurassic World character and his younger brother Gray (Ty Simpkins) survived the disaster at the park but did not appear in the sequels, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion. Despite Dominion being a finale to this trilogy, Jurassic World 4 is now in pre-production.

While speaking with CoveredGeekly, Robinson was asked whether he would return to reprise the role of Zach for Jurassic World 4. The actor responded that he would be open to reprising the role and predicted that the character is likely in therapy due to the traumatic event. Read Robinson’s response below:

I’d love to! But, I don’t know – Zach [Mitchell], I think is probably still in therapy from the trauma of the first movie [laughs] but I’d love for that character to come back, it would be really fun.

The franchise has been known to bring back established characters, including those played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and BD Wong, who all returned for the
Jurassic World
trilogy decades after their
Jurassic Park
characters made their onscreen debuts in 1993.

Why Zach Mitchell & Other Legacy Characters Won’t Return For Jurassic World 4

Jurassic World 4 is reportedly a reboot of the franchise.

By not bringing back Robinson or any other familiar faces, the franchise can finally explore new ideas and themes and be the most compelling installment since the original
Jurassic Park
.

Despite Robinson’s enthusiasm, it is highly unlikely that Zach or other legacy characters from the Jurassic Park or Jurassic World trilogies will appear in the developing sequel. Despite currently being referred to as Jurassic World 4, the next installment is reportedly a reboot and will not bring back any legacy characters, even those played by Neill, Dern, Goldblum, Howard, and Chris Pratt. The franchise’s next chapter seemingly wants to start fresh and not retread overly familiar story beats or repeat mistakes from previous sequels.

The Jurassic World trilogy had its merits and its fair share of entertaining dinosaur action, but it relied too heavily on the storylines and characters from Jurassic Park and the original sequels. Jurassic World attempts to tell the same story as Jurassic Park, only less effectively, and the same argument can be made for Fallen Kingdom and The Lost World. Dominion brought back Neill, Dern, and Goldblum to reprise their beloved characters and be important to the plot, but their reunion and Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler’s happy ending weren’t enough to salvage the lackluster story.
