Off the Shelf: Free online access to The New York Times with a library card
Easy weeknight recipes, global news, in-depth sports coverage with The Athletic, expert product reviews from Wirecutter, and fun games like Wordle — access it all online for free with your North Olympic Library System card.
Simply use your library card number to generate a 24-hour code to The New York Times – All Access. Visit NOLS.org/nyt to get started. Use this resource from anywhere on your own device or generate an access code with your library card at the Sequim Library using Wi-Fi or a public computer.
While you’re at the Sequim Library, don’t forget to browse the latest issues of local, regional and national newspapers. Grab a seat by the window and enjoy a quiet moment with the Sequim Gazette, Peninsula Daily News, The Seattle Times, The Wall Street Journal, Port Townsend Leader, USA Today or The New York Times. Stopping by the library to read the newspaper is part of some people’s daily routine.
In addition to The New York Times online, your library card provides access to digital news collections. With NewsBank, you can search newspapers from Washington, across the U.S. and around the world. The Seattle Times Collection includes full-color newspaper pages and text articles, offering an archive of local coverage.
Like local history? NOLS recently partnered with Newspapers.com to digitize the library’s local newspaper archive, previously only available on microfilm. Now, you can explore a word-searchable database of historic local newspapers for free while at the library by connecting to Wi-Fi or using a public computer.
And, for a look at the history of news on the North Olympic Peninsula, check out the book “Strait Press: A History of the News Media on the North Olympic Peninsula” by Bill Lindstrom, available at the library. Covering both Clallam and Jefferson counties, the book explores local newspapers, radio and TV. It covers everything from mastodons to the Great Olympic Blowdown with plenty of local stories and humor along the way.
With these free resources, NOLS is committed to helping you stay connected to the world of news and information. Whether you’re exploring the rich history of our local newspapers, staying up to date with global events, or enjoying a game or new recipe, your local library is the key to it all. Visit the temporary location of the Sequim Library or visit NOLS.org/online-resources to learn more.
