The Nintendo Switch Online app, now referred to simply as the Nintendo Switch App, has been updated to Version 3.0.1. on iOS and Android. Not only does the update introduce the name change, but a few new major features are also now available, enhancing the user experience and compatibility for both the current Switch and future Switch 2 owners. Some of the new features don’t require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which is likely the reason for the removal of “online” in the title.
Switch 2 exclusive features include the ability to receive GameChat invites, as well as send screenshots and videos from your system directly to the app (up to 100 files can be uploaded and stored for up to 30 days, NSO subscription not required).
As for new features that are compatible with the entire Nintendo Switch family of systems, you can now send and receive friend requests via the app using either a friend code or QR code, view your friends’ online status and play activity, enable push notifications for when a friend goes online, and view your own play activity with a more precise gameplay hour counter.
