Nicolas Cage Reportedly In Talks For Live-Action Spider-Man Noir Show

Despite previous reports indicating a change in character for the project, Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show. Cage first brought the alternate version of the Marvel hero to life in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, serving as one of the many variants who helped Miles Morales in his early days of becoming a hero. Though Noir appeared in the final moments of Across the Spider-Verse, archival audio was used for Cage’s return, ultimately setting up a proper role in Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Just over a year after the show was first announced to be in development, The Ankler is reporting that Cage is in serious talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show. The star is said to be in negotiations to reprise his role from the animated Spider-Verse movies as the grizzled ’30s detective version of the Marvel webslinger. Screen Rant reached out to Sony for comment, though have not been given a response at the time of writing.

Cage Starring In Spider-Man Noir Would Mark A Career First

Though not officially confirmed by major sources at the time of writing, Cage’s potential return for Spider-Man Noir marks an interesting change from what’s been shared about the show thus far. The initial announcement indicated that the live-action project would not be centered on Peter Parker, whom Cage voiced in Into the Spider-Verse, seemingly opening the doors for other actors to take over. While it could be explained he’s playing a different version of the same hero, the work he did in developing Parker for the animated movie may find itself undermined by his playing someone else.

Should he indeed return as Parker or another variant, however, it would mark an interesting career first for Cage in playing the lead role in a TV show in any capacity. Previously, the only major TV credit for the Oscar winner is serving as the host of Netflix’s History of Swear Words documentary, ultimately getting around playing a fictional character on screen. While he initially made his acting debut in the TV pilot The Best of Times alongside Crispin Glover, Cage has largely leant his talent to movies, save for hosting and guest appearances on Saturday Night Live.

Cage potentially starring in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show not only serves as an interesting change of pace for him, but also serves as a promising sign of it living up to the critical heights of the Spider-Verse movies if he does indeed sign on. With Phil Lord and Christopher Miller onboard the show as producers, while their 22 Jump Street co-writer Oren Uziel serves as its main scribe, the potential for it to capture the same unique energy of the Oscar-winning first movie and Oscar-nominated sequel seems high.
