Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ Debuts at Number One

The artist has become the female rapper with the most chart-topping albums to date

Nick Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 has debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Dec. 23), as Billboard reports. It’s her third album to hit Number One, behind 2012’s Roman Reloaded and 2011’s Pink Friday — making her the female rapper with the most chart-topping albums to date.

Pink Friday 2 debuts with 228,000 equivalent albums earned in the United States in the week ending Dec. 14 per Luminate. Not only has she made history as the most chart-topping female rapper thus far, but Pink Friday 2 marks the largest week for a rap album by a woman in the 2020s, and it’s also the biggest for an R&B/Hip-hop album by a woman this year. Its vinyl sales are also impressive, with 25,000 copies, marking the largest week for a rap LP by a woman since Luminate began tracking sales electronically in 1991.

The album features a bevy of artists, including Drake, Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert, among others. The album was preceded by three lead singles, including 2022’s “Super Freaky Girl,” “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” which arrived in March, and “Last Time I Saw You,” which was released in September.

She expanded on the 22-song set with the announcement of four more songs, including a “Beep Beep” remix with 50 Cent. In March, Minaj will embark on a tour through North America, which kicks off March 1 in Oakland, California at Oakland Arena, and it runs through the spring culminating at Moody Center on May 12 in Austin, Texas. She then heads to Europe for a string of summer dates.
