New Trailer For Mads Mikkelsen’s Historical Exploration Film THE PROMISED LAND — GeekTyrant

A new trailer has been released for Mads Mikkelsen‘s historical epic drama The Promised Land. Mikkelsen takes on the role of Danish Explorer Ludvig Kahlen, “who set out to conquer the harsh, uninhabitable Danish heath with a seemingly impossible goal; to build a colony in the name of the King.”

This film is based on a true story that is described as “a gripping story about the conquest of the heath, the tale of a proud and uncompromising man, and the woman who becomes his ally in the fight against evil, death and perdition.”

In 1755, “the impoverished captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out to conquer the harsh, uninhabitable Danish heath with a seemingly impossible goal: to build a colony in the name of the King. In exchange, he’ll receive a desperately desired Royal name for himself. But the sole ruler of the area, the merciless Frederik de Schinkel, arrogantly believes this land belongs to him. When de Schinkel learns the maid Ann Barbara and her servant husband have escaped for refuge with Kahlen, the privileged, spiteful ruler swears revenge, doing everything in his power to drive the captain away. Kahlen will not be intimidated and engages in an unequal battle — risking not only his life, but also that of the family of outsiders that formed around him.”

Mikkelsen stars opposite Amanda Collin (Raised by Wolves), Magnus Krepper (Queen of Hearts), Simon Bennebjerg (Borgen), Gustav Lindh (The Northman), Kristine Kujath Thorp (Ninjababy), Morten Hee Andersen (Margrete: Queen of the North), Jacob Lohmann (Riders Of Justice), and Felix Kramer (Dark).

The movie was helmed by Nikolaj Arcel from a script he wrote with Anders Thomas Jensen (Riders of Justice). It’s based on the 2020 Danish bestseller Kaptajnen of Ann Barbara translated as The Captain and Ann Barbara.

Arcel’s shared in a statement: “Aided by Ida Jessen’s brilliant novel, Anders Thomas Jensen and I wanted to tell a grand, epic tale about how our ambitions and desires will inevitably fail if they are all we have. Life is chaos; painful and unpleasant, beautiful and extraordinary, and we often cannot control it. As the saying goes, ‘We make plans and God laughs.'”

The movie will be released on February 2nd, 2024.
