Nevada Secretary of State launches election text message campaign | Local News

The Nevada Secretary of State’s Office is launching a text message campaign to streamline voter participation and increase access to critical information about the upcoming General Election.

NV SOS Election Text Message

Voters across Nevada will start receiving text messages with instructions and reminders on how to vote in the November General Election. Text messages will come from the number 25486 and be available in English and Spanish.

This number will also be used for rapid response communications should any become necessary. An example of the first text message voters will receive is attached.

“Nevadans are getting inundated with election messaging everywhere they go, and it’s critical that all voters understand that they have access to factual, trusted sources of information,” said Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar.

“These text messages will allow us to communicate important information directly to voters and help them navigate the electoral process.”

“Our office also encourages every voter to look for the ‘Official Election Mail’ seal on any mail they receive, and to reach out to our office if they have questions about what they’re reading.”

Voters can also get updates on the status of their mail ballot by signing up for the free BallotTrax service provided by the Secretary of State’s Office. After signing up, voters can get updates via email, phone call or text message.

The Secretary of State’s office encourages all residents to take advantage of these resources to make their voices heard in the upcoming election.

How is the Secretary of State’s Office contacting me?

If you’ve received an email, text message or call from the Secretary of State’s Office or your County Clerk’s Office, that means you have provided your email and/or phone number on your voter registration file.

You can check your voter registration on vote.nv.gov and update your contact information to receive the most up-to-date election information from your election officials.

Voters can also update their contact information if they vote in-person during Early Voting or on Election Day through Same-Day Voter Registration.

Will my local election official try to contact me?

Your local election official may try to contact you regarding important updates for the election and/or your ballot.

Nevada law requires election officials to use your signature to confirm your identity when voting (NRS 293.269927 and NRS 293.285).

If your county Clerk or Registrar’s Office has any questions on your signature (if your signature doesn’t appear to match, or your signature is missing, etc.), they will attempt to contact you to verify your ballot.

This is part of the ‘signature curing’ process to ensure the security of the ballot and ensure your ballot is counted.

The deadline for a voter to cure their signature and have their ballot counted after Election Day is November 12th, 2024.

Updating your contact information on vote.nv.gov ensures that your local election official is able to contact you and get your ballot counted before the deadline.

How do I know if mail is official election mail or spam?

Official election mail from the Secretary of State’s Office or your local clerk/registrar’s office will always have the ‘Official Election Mail’ logo, which is a registered trademark of the United States Postal Service. This logo is permitted for nonpartisan use ONLY by federal, state and local government election officials.

Official Election Mail

Occasionally, third-party organizations may send targeted mailings to get citizens to register to vote for the first time, or to update their voter registration information.

Even though these mailings may use the return address information of the Secretary of State or a county elections office, they may not be affiliated with that office.

Visit the Nevada Secretary of State’s website on Official Election Mail. Additional resources are provided by the USPS and can be reviewed here.

What do I do if I can’t tell who sent me information regarding the election?

If voters have questions or concerns regarding any messaging or mail that they receive regarding Nevada’s elections, please contact the Secretary of State’s Office Elections Division by calling (775) 687-VOTE ((775) 687-8683) or by email at nvelect@sos.nv.gov.
