Monroe council to vote on ordinance governing package sale of distilled spirits in the city Tuesday – Your Local News

February City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11

The City of Monroe will have the February 2025 City Council Meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 in Council Chamber, Monroe City Hall located at 215 N Broad Street. A 5:30 p.m. meeting on the City of Monroe’s consideration with regard to opting out of H.B. 581 will precede the meeting. The public is invited to attend.

Also on the agenda is the first reading on ordinances related to alcohol excise tax and the retail package sales. In November 2024, Monroe voters approved the issuance of licenses for the package sale of distilled spirits in the city. The ordinance lays out costs and regulations relating to such licenses as well as the areas in the city for which such an establishment could be located.
