Missing Fort Valley State basketball coach found dead in Atlanta, per report

Jackson served as Fort Valley State’s head men’s basketball coach from 2011 until 2018.

MACON, Ga. — A missing Central Georgia man was found dead in Atlanta on Wednesday, according to the Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks. He said Sheriff Buck Shannon passed along the information.

They say Sammy Jackson, who served as the Fort Valley State men’s basketball coach from 2011 until he left in 2018, was found dead in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Jackson was missing since Sunday, according to family members. In a Facebook post, a family member said he was last seen around 10:00 p.m. Sunday at a Dollar General on Russell Parkway in Warner Robins.

Peach and Houston County investigators were actively working the case on Wednesday afternoon. A 13WMAZ reporter spoke to Jackson’s family Wednesday, just before an investigator approached the home to share the news of the discovery.

“At about 2 a.m. when I woke up, he still wasn’t home, I tried to call to let him know he had work in the morning and I didn’t receive a call back,” Jill Jackson said. “That’s when I knew something was wrong.”

Jackson’s car was located in Houston County on Monday. The car had been damaged, and there was no trace of Jackson’s location.

Jill Jackson, his wife, told 13WMAZ that she received messages from his phone asking her about his social security number.

She says after receiving the messages his phone started going to voicemail.

We’ll continue to bring you the latest on this case as we learn more.
