Miley Cyrus has found herself being “bullied into singing” at her movie premiere.
The 32-year-old attended the Tribeca Film Festival to debut her new film, Something Beautiful, which is a companion piece to her new album of the same name.

She was talking to the film’s producer Panos Cosmatos when a fan yelled out from the crowd, ”We thought this was a concert! We paid $800!” (which equates to $1232 Australian dollars).
The singer ignored the fans at first, but after one yelled, “Are you actually going to sing?” she made a surprised expression.
Eventually she gave in to the fans, singing the first verse and chorus of her song The Climb, with her fans joining in.

After the clip circulated online, many condemned the behaviour of the fans at the event.
“She’s so nice and patient. Those ‘fans’ are soooo rude and entitled. They should be ashamed,” said one.
Another said she was “singing to calm them down like they’re a bunch of toddlers.”

When music stars have surprised fans with performances
“The way they bullied her into singing,” one observed.
“I can’t believe they treated her like that,” another remarked.
“People have no decorum anymore like READ WHAT YOU GOT TICKETS FOR,” said another angry fan.

But it turns out that it may not have been the fans’ fault either.
The Hollywood Reporter interviewed disgruntled fans after the show, who shared that they spent good money on tickets that were advertised as tours and concerts on third party re-selling sites.
27-year-old New York resident Kate Fiore told the outlet she spent $US1700 ($2618) on tickets from third party re-seller VividSeats after seeing an advertisement on Instagram, with no indication that it was a film premiere.

“Had I seen anywhere from that VividSeats ad that this was linked as a Tribeca Film Festival event, I would’ve maybe looked, but what it said was something like ‘2025 tour date one night only,’ and we weren’t the only ones,” she said.
Cyrus hasn’t had an official headlining tour in over ten years, and has not announced any plans for one.
Fiore only realised what the event was when she showed up at the venue and said many others attendees also believed the event was a concert, spending similar amounts for tickets and leaving early in frustration when they realised Cyrus wouldn’t be performing.
“No one would’ve spent this much money if we had known. She doesn’t tour, she doesn’t play live often.”
