Mayfair Witches is seriously becoming one of the better genre dramas on the air.

Maybe it’s because there’s a severe lack of genre fare, but the series has been on a creative upswing lately.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 7 upped the ante considerably, preparing for an endgame that’s sure to be filled with bloodshed.

The episode did a great job of upping the creepy factor as Rowan navigated the tunnels to learn more about Ian, his family, and his master plan for Lasher.

You know how I feel about Rowan’s decisions this season, but she was on her A-game as she traversed the tunnels, met Moira, and used her magic to scare Ian’s wife into giving her answers.

If there’s one thing that’s bugged me about the show, it’s that Rowan’s powers have been all over the place.

We’re supposed to believe she’s this powerful witch that people fear, but what has she done of substance over two seasons?

Thankfully, Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 8 is poised to help her reach her full potential, and she did a fantastic job of tearing parts of the tunnel apart.

Mayfair Witches Needs to Flesh Out Rowan’s Powers

Given her power, she should have been more forceful about having Moira by her side. It’s not like the people in the tunnels would have been strong enough to overpower her.

That’s likely a big part of why Moira was so stunned when Rowan said she would return from her.

Look at it from Moira’s perspective: She was being held against her will and knew the family could switch their plan on a dime, and that could involve killing her.

Moira isn’t the type of person to sit on the sidelines, either, and would love to be a big part of helping Rowan get Lasher and escape from Kilbride with their family legacy intact.

Could Moira’s disappointment at Rowan’s actions come back to haunt her on the season finale? It has to, right?

Despite the Midsommar-esque vibe, Rowan wasn’t afraid to traverse the grounds of this estate on her own.

Maybe she felt connected to Lasher somehow and thought that the ends justified the means, but their reunion was too easy for me to digest.

There are so many people in this family that the previous two episodes showcased person after person showing up to ensure whatever Ian has planned goes ahead.

For that reason alone, Rowan should have faced an even bigger hurdle in her quest to find Lasher.

That said, I didn’t expect to get so much context about Lasher’s history, and it leads me to believe that we are really approaching the series finale. Unlike Interview with the Vampire, we’ll be waiting a while to hear the fate of Mayfair Witches.

Lasher has been portrayed as a villain in the narrative, but I never really considered who he was before he appeared as an apparition to help guide the Mayfair family into good or bad situations.

Lasher’s Backstory Was Poignant

Knowing his rich history and that he was once viewed as a beacon of hope following humble beginnings showcases the character has a higher purpose than anyone has given him credit for.

The arranged marriage to Emaleth may have come out of the left field, but we don’t know what the Mayfairs in Scotland have to gain from it.

There must be some rhyme or reason for their devotion to this event and its aftermath.

Cortland being played by both Ian and Julien was karma for some of his heinous actions. However, it doesn’t give me the fuzzies that everyone will escape the finale with their lives.

Ian is difficult to read, but his plan to swindle Cortland by revealing that Julien wants Hamish’s body as a vessel to return from the Victrola was well-executed.

Cortland has been searching for meaning throughout Mayfair Witches Season 2 and figured helping his brother would be a good way to repair their fraught dynamic.

However, Cortland should have questioned why they both had to enter the Victrola to get the job done. I mean, Cortland is cynical as hell.

So, my only theory here is that he was blinded by this fake love Ian was throwing his way, and he just rolled with it and hoped for the best.

The big question now is how anyone will be able to help him. There’s a case to be made for leaving Cortland in there forever, but he has done a good job of repenting for his sins this season.

Will the show allow him to continue that, or will Harry Hamlin be playing Julien exclusively from now on?

The chilling final scenes of the hour were some of Mayfair Witches’ best yet. The wedding alone was terrifying because I didn’t know what to expect.

Will Lark Survive the Season Finale?

Ian revealing that Lark was tethered to him sent the narrative in an interesting direction because it means that Rowan can’t kill him without killing her love interest. Ben Feldman really is getting the short end of the stick here.

Are we in for some sort of development where she has to kill Lark for the greater good? Honestly, I would expect it with this show.

However, I hope the writers decide against being predictable and have some surprises up their sleeves for the finale.

Over to you, Mayfair Witches fanatics! What did you think of Rowan’s actions? Do you think she’s solidifying herself as the worthy witch to be the show’s focus?

What do you think of Cortland losing his body to Julien? Is there a way Harry Hamlin will play dual roles going forward?

Let’s conjure up a conversation in the comments section.
