Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 3 Breathes Signs of Life into This Anne Rice Series

Critic’s Rating: 3.5 / 5.0

There comes a point in most series where you question whether it’s worth seeing the rest of it out, and Mayfair Witches has done it on a recurring basis.

Thankfully, Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 3 is the series at its best, and with some minor changes, it could blossom into the adaptation we should have gotten in the first place.

Adaptations are tricky to pull off, but the creatives seem more interested in aligning the narrative with the source material, making it a far more worthwhile endeavor.

Rowan’s decisions continue to be a big issue because she doesn’t think of the bigger picture, but it’s clear there’s a part of her that’s enjoying the gifts Lasher gave her, maybe a little too much.

Rounding up the Mayfairs was a tall order because of their distinctly different views on what Lasher brings to the family, but I don’t think she needed Cortland to help pull the party off.

A simple message to everyone that she needs to talk to them about Lasher and the recent mortality rate of Mayfair women would have been enough to pique their curiosity.

Cortland is so self-serving that it was inevitable that he would find a way to sway their opinions and get out of his predicament.

Jojo was right to be mad at Rowan for bringing her dad back to the land of the living without consulting her first.

The two women have struck up this rapport over the last two seasons.

Jojo has never entertained the thought of turning her back on Rowan, while the rest of the family would do so without a second thought.

If Rowan manages to break the spell she accidentally cast on Jojo and Daphne, she has much explaining to do because.

I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face: her actions make very little sense in the grand scheme of things.

Alexandra Daddario plays up this confused young woman’s personality to perfection and is slowly but surely getting far more comfortable baring her soul for the sake of the character.

Rowan isn’t as proactive as she’d like to think, but that’s what made Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 3 tower above the rest of the episodes that have already aired.

Her questionable motives in gathering everyone at the house and then her admission to Moira that she wanted to lure Lasher there to kill him was entertaining because it was apparent things would go awry.

Rowan hesitated and then immediately tried to protect Lasher when the Talamasca showed up.

That highlighted their connection and proved to the entire family that she doesn’t act with conviction.

It’s hard to tell what Rowan will do next regarding Lasher because the Talamasca will find a way to keep them apart, especially now that Rowan has shown them where her allegiance truly lies.

The sad part is that Moira will never trust Rowan again, either. Had Rowan been honest with Moira about her intentions, there may have been a way forward for them.

But as far as Moira is concerned, Lasher killed her mother and will operate under the belief that he needs to be killed or, at the very least, apprehended by the Talamasca and taken somewhere that his influence can be subdued.

Add in the fact that Rowan’s lack of control of her magic has sent Moira’s only surviving sibling, Daphne, to what can only be assumed is another realm.

Moira probably won’t want to be anywhere near Rowan again.

They may join forces to break the spell, and some context may allow Moira to understand Rowan’s perspective, but I’m not holding my breath. I wouldn’t trust Rowan if I were in Moira’s position.

It was a nice change of pace that Lasher was thwarted before he could kill Evelyn because we don’t need to witness the deaths of any more women at his hands.

While it’s easy to paint Lasher as straight-up evil because his rap sheet speaks for itself, the series and Jack Huston are doing an admirable job of humanizing him to show that there’s more going on here than meets the eye.

The crossover with Interview With the Vampire through one of Lestat’s minions was interesting in that a vampire has now said that Lasher smells completely different from anything vampires usually smell.

That alone leads me to believe that word will get out and vampires could play a more crucial part in Mayfair Witches than anticipated.

If word spreads about this scent, many more could come from further afield to try to get a taste of his blood.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 Episode 3 highlighted that there’s some life left in the series, so I’m interested in seeing where the show goes next because the stakes have never been higher.

What are your thoughts on Rowan trying to save Lasher after saying she would kill him? Do you think the series is putting Rowan on a side of her own against the rest of the family?

Let’s keep the magic happening. Hit the comments with your thoughts below.
