Many hires and jobs moves have been announced over the last few weeks. Here’s your round-up!
§ Massive Publishing Co-Founder and President Kevin Roditeli is leaving to pursue his creative career. After three years at Massive, which he which he co-founded with Michael Calero and Trevor Richardson, Roditeli will focus on writing and making his debut film, which he will write and direct, ith funding already secured.
“My energy and focus are now fully dedicated to creation,” he writes in a statement. “Balancing publishing with my own projects was a challenge, but my mind has never stopped racing—I have dozens of stories ready for development. I’m eager to collaborate with passionate artists and publishers to push the boundaries of comics. It’s exciting to be in a unique position as a freelance creator who has led successful crowdfunding campaigns and sold millions of comics to local shops.”
At Massive, Roditelli wrote the music focused Bad Omens: Concrete Jungle and his creator owned Washed In The Blood. He’ll remain involved with another creator-owned series andan upcoming licensed project from Massive. He’s also launching www.kevinroditeli.com.
§ As revealed at ComicsPRO, Devin Funches has joined Tiny Onion as Retail Sales Manager. Funches was formerly Sales Manager at Diamond Books Distribution, and previously held similar positions at Z2, Oni and Boom Studios.
§ Industry veteran Dave Olbrich has joined Comic-Con International as Marketing and Publications Editor. “It is a great privilege to join this group. I’m excited for the future. Onward and upward!” he wrote on LinkedIn. Olbrich has a long career in and around comics…he’d better write that book someday!
§ Ignition Press is still keeping their line-up of titles under wraps, but they have hired more humans to put out those books and now announced who: senior editor Maggie Howell, director of Marketing Bre Sarpy and executive assistant, Zelio Pereira. The books will be released in mid-2025, so we’re waiting for that announcement!
Maggie Howell joined Ignition Press as Senior Editor in early January and in her new role will oversee and build the publisher’s new editorial department, alongside Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich, as well as edit numerous of the publisher’s upcoming original projects. Howell was previously at DC Comics, wrking at Black Label and Vertigo and IDW Publishing. Among her projects: Hill House Comics and Sandman Universe lines, Batman: White Knight Universe at DC. At IDW Howell co-edited the 2024 TMNT relaunch, spearheaded the upcoming imprint IDW Dark, and edited Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, Earthdivers, and The Hunger and the Dusk.
Bre Sarpy will oversee and build the publisher’s new marketing department, alongside Publisher Filip Sablik. Past companies include Skybound and BOOM! Studios, where she worked on BRZRKR, Something is Killing the Children, The Walking Dead, and Invincible. Most recently she worked at marketing/pr firm Team Click, where she worked on projects including D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
Zelio Pereira was hired as Executive Assistant last year and was previously Editorial Assistant at BOOM! Studios.
§ IDW Publishing has also announced a slew of hires and promotions, accompanied by the best graphics for an announcement of this kind we’ve seen: a headshot org chart drawn by Meagan Leavens. Well done!
