Mass Effect TV Show Gets Exciting Update From Prime Video

The Mass Effect TV show has received an exciting update.

Amazon MGM Studios is currently working on a Mass Effect TV show that is based on the popular video game series. The project, which officially entered development in November 2024, is being written by Daniel Casey.

Who is the showrunner of the Mass Effect TV show?

Doug Jung has officially been hired as the showrunner for the Mass Effect TV show, according to Deadline.

Jung is known for co-writing the screenplay for 2016’s Star Trek Beyond movie, which was directed by Justin Lin, alongside Simon Pegg. He also recently served as the showrunner for Chief of War, a historical drama show starring Jason Momoa that will premiere on Apple TV+ on August 1, 2025. Consisting of nine episodes, it also stars Temuera Morrison, Luciane Buchanan, Cliff Curtis, and more.

Additionally, Jung has written episodes of Big Love, Dark Blue, Banshee, and Mindhunter, among other titles. He co-created the story for 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox with Oren Uziel.

Plot details for the Mass Effect series remain under wraps at this time. No casting has yet been announced.

The first Mass Effect video game was released in 2007. Developed by BioWare and originally published by Microsoft Game Studios, the story revolves around a soldier named Commander Shepard who tries to save humanity from evil forces that are threatening the galaxy. It was followed by 2010’s Mass Effect 2, 2012’s Mass Effect 3, and 2017’s Mass Effect: Andromeda, while a fifth game is also in the works but does not yet have a release date.

The Mass Effect show is being executive produced by Casey and Jung, along with Karim Zreik for Cedar Tree Productions, Ari Arad, and EA’s Michael Gamble.

An official premiere date for Mass Effect has not yet been announced by Amazon MGM Studios.
