Magma Comix introduces ROME ETERNAL
During a panel on Friday, Magma Comix announced their next forthcoming title, ROME ETERNAL! This new alternative history series is created in collaboration with Ruptura Estudios, and is written by author Homero Rios (Heavy Metal) and drawn by Argentine artist Diego Yapur. Here’s the premise:
In a world where the Roman Empire never fell, it now stands on the brink of collapse. For over two thousand years, Roman society has thrived, evolving into a technological and military powerhouse. Yet its immense power has bred corruption, making it vulnerable to a group of unique and fanatical individuals known as the Mithra Mysteries. To some, they are terrorists; to others, they are heroes. As their enigmatic leader reveals his bold plan to assassinate the Emperor, no one within Rome is safe!
“I am thrilled to present Rome Eternal!” said series writer, Homero Rios. “The blend of action and suspense in this rich, semi-historical sci-fi setting offers a unique challenge that I eagerly embrace. I believe that, one way or another, readers will come to realize that, much like The Mysteries, nothing lasts forever, and the best choice might just be to overthrow the Emperor.”
“The action in Rome Eternal is fast and powerful, I think it will be quite a ride,” said artist Diego Yapur.
Ruptura Estudios has been focused on publishing comics with Hispanic-appealing creators from around the world. Magma Comix announced their partnership with Ruptura Estudios in March 2024 working on titles such as HELL’s HALF ACRE, written by Magna Comix founder Denton J. Tipton.
As for Ruptura Estudios, the publisher was originally founded in the 1990s amid the burgeoning scene of the so-called “new Mexican comic.” Over time, it has stepped in and out of the spotlight, collaborating with different publishing houses. 30 years after its inception, Ruptura Estudios returned with its core mission intact: help creators and readers on journeys through different realities.
For fans of The Man in the High Castle, East of West, and DC’s Elseworlds line, Rome Eternal #1 also features a beautifully illustrated variant cover from famed Malaysian artist Alan Quah (Dark Souls).
Magma Comix will be in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con International all throughout the weekend, Booth #1709.
