HEADLINES:
-Rain showers early Sunday morning
-Dry, breezy and pleasant for Sunday afternoon
-Winter Storm arrives Tuesday
FORECAST:
We’ve seen some dry hours today but just has been the case for the last few days, we will once again bring back the opportunity for some more showers as we head into the evening and overnight. More than likely you’ve already noticed the increase in clouds this evening. That will continue as we head through the period. More than likely any plans you may have this evening (before midnight) should still be dry. I’d take the rain gear just in case but the chances of you making it through the evening dry are rather good. Temperatures actually start to climb upwards this evening. Upper 30s by 7PM we’re in the lower 40s by 11PM.
Overnight a cold front will cross the area and that could bring another round of rain showers to the area. Most of this rain should be held to the west of the blue ridge, but really anyone could see a shower overnight and early on Sunday morning. I don’t think it’s as heavy as the showers that pushed through early on Saturday morning, nor will the duration be as long, either.
Sunday could start with some very brief morning showers before things turn dry as we head through the rest of the morning. Sunday is a mild day and it’s a somewhat breezy one, too. Highs are in the middle 50s and we could see winds crank to the tune of 20-30mph – especially at elevation in the wake of the cold front.
Then – the excitement starts. Monday is technically a Weather Alert Day but I think most of the day is dry. If we see anything on Monday it won’t come until well after the sun goes down. I’d use Monday as a day to get anything you need to get done, done – because the next chance you may have to do it with good weather will be Friday. Tuesday is another Weather Alert Day. We will see snow move over the area from west to east. Some of this snow will come down heavy at times before it starts to change over to more of an icy mix from south to north. Wednesday (for now) is not a Weather Alert Day but it may become one as we will look for a transition of snow to ice to rain before the end of the day. Too early to talk totals but in general expect more snow accumulation to the north, less to the south. More ice to the south, with less to the north. Thursday we warm up and that chances everything over to rain -which could also be a decent amount, as another system comes in fresh on the heels of the last one. We’ll dry out by Friday.
Stay tuned and keep it here for the latest this week. It’s an everchanging forecast!
