‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8 Blindsided Us With This Couple

Praise Cupid! Love Is Blind is finally giving us a reason to believe love is real! We all want to celebrate love and the potential of romance. As much as it can be difficult to do so with certain individuals on Love Is Blind, Season 8 gave us some singles we wanted to see be happy in the end. This season, we were all in on Alex Brown and Madison Errichiello. Their sickly sweet story was like watching a high school romance blossom. Their connection was pure. The joy they brought out of one another was infectious. We knew Alex was all in with Madison. We knew Madison had the potential to be with Mason Horacek. But in our hearts, we knew that it had to be Alex and Madison.

The beauty of this experiment is the ability to open up to an individual that you can’t see. Madison, perhaps more than anyone ever on this show, really gave it to Alex. As some might say, she trauma dumped. But the moment that she revealed her attachment style was avoidance, Alex became hesitant. He had experience with individuals in the past who had similar traits. So, he was honest about it. Yet, Madison felt it was unfair. After one story of avoidance from Madison spooked Alex, it nearly created a domino effect that almost prevented a potential happily ever after from coming to fruition. Not just for Alex and Madison. But for the other potential couple connected in this story, Mason and Meg Fink. As it goes, Love Is Blind gives the singles a chance to learn about one another in an expedited fashion without the burden of visuals. So, Madison’s avoidance spell in the pods ended up being the precursor for life outside the pods. And our favorite couple was no more. Things got dicey! But that’s real life, right?

The Story of Madison and Alex

Seldom do we get a featured couple on Love Is Blind that ends up not extending past the pod period. From Episode 1 all the way through Episode 6, Alex and Madison gave us hope that love is real. Even though they couldn’t see one another, we knew how adorable they were. With their cute affection for Madison’s stuffed alien bear named “Bearlien,” and their connections over life experiences, Alex and Madison were meant to be the poster couple of Love Is Blind Season 8. To say we, as viewers, were completely blindsided by the result is an understatement.

Through the first few episodes, we were led to believe Alex and Madison would say “I do.” They were the first to refer to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. With some stumbles along the way, we thought they might break up early. If Alex and Madison split, it would mean that Madison might end up with Mason, who didn’t quite feel her as much as Meg. If the domino effect happened, none of these four would leave the pods together. And yet, that’s what happened! When we got to Episode 6, and they still hadn’t gotten engaged, red flags were waving.

Upon Madison’s break-up with Mason, those dominoes fell. Alex, as the incredible and sweet man he is, felt for Mason. He witnessed his pain as he saw his friend’s heartbreak firsthand in the men’s living quarters. So when he told his girlfriend he understood where Mason was coming from, Madison displayed her avoidance, and it all came crashing down. The biggest blindside of the season was their break-up.

The Downfall of Alex and Madison

Alex was easily one of the best individuals in this season’s cast. He was sweet. He was charming. He was like a cute puppy you couldn’t wait to bring home to your parents. Madison needed someone like that. With so much difficulty in her past, she needed someone who was more than just a shoulder to cry on. Alex was understanding, empathetic, and endearing. Madison had her baggage. So did Alex. It just so happened his baggage was a trigger that Madison set off. But with their ability to discuss it, Alex seemed willing to work around Madison’s attachment style. Relationships are about compromise. They knew that an emotional connection was needed before a physical one, but Alex was still afraid of her. He just didn’t realize how on-the-money about her he was.

It’s hard to watch Alex and Madison’s break-up and not feel sad for them. It’s also hard to say you understand where they’re both coming from, because Madison would likely not be pleased to hear sympathy for anyone but her position. Alex could have lied to Madison and said something like Mason was wrong for hurting Madison. But that would mean he wasn’t being genuine. And that would have been a red flag in the real world. While they both amicably went their separate ways, the blame does seem to fall on Madison’s shoulders. Alex’s fear of being hurt by another person who leaned on avoidance is exactly what happened in the pods.

Rarely has there been a romance to truly root for like this on Love Is Blind. Alex and Madison exuded pure love, joy, and happiness. Their story was the one to root for. For us to go on this journey believing they were our perfect couple only to end in heartbreak is a true testament to this experience. The experiment is a reflection of reality. Not everything will end with happiness. These are real people experiencing real emotions. They found the thing that would be the dealbreaker in their relationship. And we should commend them for discovering it during the pod stage and not in the real world. But damn, our hearts are hurting too!
