Armageddon star Liv Tyler has opened up about the “shock” of learning that Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler is her dad.
The actress recalled the moment her mum, singer and model Bebe Buell, told her about her birth father as they sat at an Aerosmith concert, during an episode of podcast Sibling Revelry.
Liv told the hosts – actors Kate Hudson and her brother Oliver Hudson – that, until then, she thought musician Todd Rundgren was her real dad and says her mum’s former partner raised her as if she was his own.

The Lord of The Rings actress, who went to school with Kate, was “11 or 12” when a paternity test confirmed the rocker as her biological father, a few years after her mum spilled the news.
“We sat on a bench at this outdoor amphitheatre and she told me the whole story in the most sincere, beautiful way,” Liv told the Hudsons.
“I just was there with it and then we went backstage after the show.”
Liv, who appeared on the Sibling Revelry podcast alongside half-sister Mia Tyler, said the revelation came after she spotted Mia on stage.

Guns N’ Roses were opening for Aerosmith at the Great Woods show and Guns N’ Roses front man Axel Rose dedicated their hit Sweet Child O’ Mine to Mia, bringing her out on stage.
“I just remember standing there watching them play, looking and seeing this girl who looked exactly like me,” Liv recalled of the moment she spotted Mia.
“Like we literally had the same outfit on. We had both had perms, like spiral perms, pink frosty lipstick. We were both wearing a Aerosmith concert t-shirt with black leggings and Reebok high top sneakers.
“I looked and I was like, ‘wait, that’s me’. It was really weird. I was literally like looking in the mirror seeing double.”
Liv said her mum “just started crying” when she looked over at her and asked if Steven Tyler was her dad, having met him a handful of times over the past 12 months thinking he was just a friend of her parents.
The actress said she felt various “layers” of emotions as the news sunk in that she had two dads.
“The first wave was shock,” she said.
“After that concert, we went home and my mum had a chaise lounge in front of a window.

“I remember sitting there for what felt like three days, but it was probably three hours, and coming to this conclusion of ‘Whoa, I have two dads and all this love.'”
Rundgren, who was dating Buell at the time of Liv’s birth in 1977, signed her birth certificate as Steven struggled with drugs and his sobriety.
“I’m so grateful to Todd for choosing to be a father figure to me,” Liv previously told The Guardian in 2017.
“It’s a big thing for a man to say, ‘I know this kid might not be mine, but I still want to be her father.’ Although he and my mum weren’t together, he was always a very stable, loving force in my life.”
Liv revealed during the podcast that as part of his “12 steps” after rehab, Steven reached out to her mum and that’s how the pair were reconnected. Then he met Liv for the first time at one of Rundgren’s gigs.
Mia revealed the duo met backstage that same night Liv found out about her real dad, but as eight and nine-year-olds they hadn’t realised they were related.
So when some stranger asked if they were sisters, the pair, who are 18-months apart, played along and said they were.

Then when Mia got home from the concert and told her mum, Cyrinda Foxe, about meeting Liv, that’s when she found out she had an older sister.
The pair also recalled getting to spend time together in New York as tweens but not being sure if the other knew they were related.
“I just remember … wanting to blurt it out and I had to really like bite my tongue,” Mia recalled on the podcast.
That afternoon they got the go-ahead from the parents that they could talk about it freely, revealing they both knew the truth.
“And then we just sat there and hugged we’ve been sisters ever since,” Mia said.
