Legendary Comic Artist Jack Kirby Gets His Own TMNT Action Figure From NECA — GeekTyrant

NECA has revealed a new action figure for its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line and it’s of legendary comic artist Jack Kirby.

As you know, Kirby is the creator of and co-creator of some of Marvel’s biggest and most popular superhero characters.

So, what is the connection to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Well, “Kirby” appeared as an artist character who interacted with Donatello in a 1986 comic.

The figure is 100% based on Kirby as the Kirby estate has to approve the figure’s likeness. It’s about time that Kirby got his own action figure!

In the comic, Kirby discovers a way to bring his drawings to life thanks to a pencil that is powered by a magic crystal, and even draw his way into another dimension.

The figure includes the pencil, sketchbook, various hands, a comic-style blaster weapon, and a creature in Kirby’s style with its own weapon.

“Here comes an action figure first based on the original Eastman & Laird Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books from Mirage Studios! In a one-issue, micro-series comic published in May 1986, Donatello encounters a reclusive artist named Kirby, who can bring his sketches to life with the power of a magic crystal-enhanced pencil.

“Celebrate Donatello’s fan-favorite solo adventure with this 7-inch scale Kirby action figure, complete with interchangeable hands and a variety of issue-specific accessories. Comes in window box packaging featuring original artwork by Kevin Eastman. Special thanks to Kevin Eastman and the Kirby Estate!”

The figure is now available at Target.
