Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a return to form for the Zelda franchise, reintroducing the more traditional, puzzle-focused dungeons in the form of rifts. One such rift, the Gerudo Sanctum, has a tricky-to-reach chest that’s stumping many players. At first glance, this chest is completely blocked away, tucked into a room split in half by an impenetrable stone wall. You can’t use an Echo to fly over it and you can’t pull the wall away using Tri, so you’ll have to think about the bigger picture if you’re going to get this chest open.
As a long-standing puzzle-games enjoyer, Echoes of Wisdom has been delightful to play for this exact reason. I love games that force me to think outside the box, and this particular encounter encourages you to stop thinking about dungeons room by room, instead asking you to consider the dungeon as a whole. With more traditional dungeon crawlers, you stop thinking about the dungeon once you leave it, moving on to the next challenge, but to open this chest in the Gerudo Sanctum, you’re going to have to end that way of thinking.
How To Reach The Chest In The Gerudo Sanctum
Make Sure You Have A Holmill Echo
Before you can reach that tricky chest, you’ll need to have a Holmill Echo, which can be found in the Ancestor’s Cave of Rest. You should have already cleared this location earlier on in the questline, but if you didn’t defeat one of the Holmills there to learn its Echo, return to an earlier save so you can do so. Once you’ve got the Holmill, progress through the Gerudo Sanctum until you reach the exterior part of the dungeon.
This will mean passing by the chest the first time you see it. Once you reach the exterior part of the dungeon where you fight the Poe, take the ladder up to the upper level. Here, you should notice that one of the tiles on the floor, just in front of the ladder, is sand rather than a tile. Use the Holmill Echo here and drop through the hole.
The hole will drop you right into the room with the chest, allowing you to loot it. Inside, you’ll get 50 rupees for your efforts, which is a pretty good chunk of change. While this reward may seem underwhelming, it should have also taught you a quick lesson about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘sunique dungeon design philosophy; when approaching a challenge, think about the dungeon as an entire encounter rather than individual challenges.
