Latest X-MEN ’97 episode features some marvelous cameos

It goes without saying that the new X-Men ’97 animated series is a much needed bona fide hit from Marvel Studios with every episode garnering acclaim and discussions on social media. The latest episode “Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 1″is indeed no exception. After the appearance of Captain America (voiced by Josh Keaton) in last week’s episode, showrunner Beau DeMayo hinted fans could expect other iconic Marvel characters outside of the X-Men universe to show up. Sure enough, this latest episode featured some iconic characters.

Spoilers from here on out!

Early in the episode, the season’s big bad Bastion (Theo James) with some members of Operation Zero Tolerance. Among the organization is the ruler of Latveria himself, Doctor Doom! It’s worth noting that the end credits has the character listed as Latverian OZT member. Doom is voiced by Ross Marquand who also plays Professor X in the series. As MCU fans are well aware, Marquand is no stranger to portraying Marvel characters. He most notably took over the role as the Red Skull from Hugo Weaving in Avengers: Infinity War.  As Doom remarks in the episode, though he is colluding with Bastion he is not indifferent to his “flagrant war crimes.”

Immediately after Doom, we see perennial Captain America foe foe Baron Zemo (voiced by Rama Vallury) voice his concerns.

As X-Men: TAS fans are well aware, the 1994 Spider-Man animated series had the X-Men guest star. Moreover, an episode of X-Men: TAS featured a very sneaky cameo appearance of Spider-Man’s hand. With the incredible success of the X-Men: TAS revival, some sort of potential revival of the ’90s Spidey series might not be out of the question in the near future. Spider-Man ’98 perhaps?
