Justin Baldoni Drags Colleen Hoover Into Blake Lively Lawsuit By Revealing Glowing Emails That Show They Were On 'Same Page' About Movie, BUT…

Justin Baldoni is dragging Colleen Hoover into his legal fight against Blake Lively!

In his $400 million countersuit against Blake, Ryan Reynolds, and more on her team, Justin shares emails sent between him and the book’s author — seemingly trying to claim he was the perfect person to make the movie but that Blake’s “difficult” personality ruined it all.

In his lawsuit, which was filed last week, he explains that he was moved by It Ends With Us and wanted to turn it into a film to help “save lives.” In 2019, he started messaging the author about his thoughts and the possibility of his production company Wayfarer Studios acquiring the rights.

His first email to Colleen was sent on February 1, 2019. In it, he talked about the “purpose and intention” behind his company — making films that create positive change in the world. He also shared a review of IEWU and gushed about being eager to read the story, writing:

“Yes, please send over a e-book but I also just purchased it on paperback as I like supporting authors.”

He obviously didn’t realize it at the time, but this kinda reads like a dig at Blake now — considering she reportedly didn’t bother to read the book!

Then in April, he returned with another email. At the time, he was nearing the end of filming Jane the Virgin, and his film Five Feet Apart had just been released. He praised her work, saying in part:

“So, I haven’t been able to get IT ENDS WITH US off my mind. Such an important story! So damn romantic and beautiful and tragic and hopeful.”

He was blown away by the book and expressed an interest in optioning it. Colleen was thrilled with his response, replying:

“I would love to talk with you more about the project. You ‘get’ the book, and that’s the most important thing to me.”

That said, she did have some reservations after being burned in the past and made those clear to him. For instance, she did NOT want any crowdfunding after her fans had spent $100,000 on a film that was never made by a previous producer. Oof. She also wanted to be more involved in this project than she had been in other adaptations because it meant so much to her.

Ultimately, though, she had a good feeling about him, concluding her email:

“I feel good about this, though. I feel good about you. I’ve seen your past work, your passion and your love for humanity and I honestly feel there’s no one better for the project.”

She added elsewhere:

“I realize your experience with film far outweighs mine, and based on the magnificent adaption you did of Five Feet Apart, I’m confident you could do this book justice and that our visions will align.”

She also asked to meet to “make sure we’re on the same page” before making anything official, but she was definitely excited about the possibility because the very next day, she also proposed the idea that he take on the role of Ryle! That was her idea!

So, the writer was a HUGE fan of him when they first started the project together — and Justin is clearly hoping that will show that Blake is the one who introduced so much turmoil into the production, not him. In the docs, he goes on to point out that he was thrilled to hire Blake for the lead role despite her “reputation for being difficult to work with.” Despite working well together at first, we all know what happened next. S**t hit the fan!

So, basically, he’s setting up the framework that everything on the project was picture-perfect until Blake got involved — AKA trying to blame her for all the on-set drama.

But here’s the thing. This doesn’t really prove a damn thing! We mean, Colleen never would have agreed to give him the rights to the movie if she didn’t think they shared the same vision for the project. It doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything wrong once on set! All this does is show he was passionate about the project, something nobody ever doubted.

It’s important to note that Colleen has very much been on the Gossip Girl alum’s side throughout this legal mess. Not only did she distance herself from the director during the film’s rollout, but she also commented in support of Blake’s initial filing, which accused her co-star of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign. Sure, she’s gone quiet in the days and weeks since, but she made her stance clear.

While Justin may think this is helping his case, it’s not really changing our minds about anything. Maybe if these emails were more recent we’d think differently…
