Josh Hutcherson Recalls Losing Out on Peter Parker Role in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN — GeekTyrant

The Hunger Games and Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson was one of the finalists to take on the role of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man in Sony Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012. The part ultimately went to Andrew Garfield, who was great in the role, but Hutcherson was incredibly close to landing the role and even did a really cool screen test for director Marc Webb.

During a recent interview, Hutcherson talked about his experience and still isn’t quite sure what he was lacking when he auditioned for the film. He said:

“You never find out. They just end up hiring somebody else. So I never found out why. I also do know that three weeks or so after I auditioned, I ended up getting Hunger Games, so it kind of worked out.”

The actor went on to say that if the opportunity presented itself to play a Spider-Man variant in the Spider-Verse, he’d be open to it. He said:

“Potentially, yeah. I was a big Spider-Man fan all my life growing up from the old-school cartoons and stuff. But yeah, I’d be open to it, man. I’d throw some webs around.”

I think Hutcherson would’ve been great in the role of Spider-Man, but it just wasn’t meant to be and he seems to be doing fine in his career without it. He currently stars in David Ayer’s new action thriller The Beekeeper.
