Jon Hamm to Star In Podcast Thriller Series Dungeon Masters

Get ready to adjust the antenna and fiddle with the knobs on your wood-paneled, fridge-sized RCA, because old-timey radio serials are back, baby!

Well, sort of …

Deadline is reporting today that Jon Hamm is set to produce and star in a new scripted podcast thriller entitled Dungeon Masters.

Yes, a serving of Hamm is always welcome, but we’re only getting his voice this time.

So it’ll be more like tuning into a Mercedes commercial than watching an episode of Mad Men.

It’s a little weird that one of TV’s most dapper leading men is so fond of voice work these days.

Sort of seems like hiring Cristiano Ronaldo for a job where he’s not allowed to use his feet.

But hey, maybe the former Don Draper/Dick Whitman is just sick of sitting in the makeup chair!

According to today’s report, Dungeon Masters is set in 1979 and will center around the real-life disappearance of Dallas Egbert, a college student who vanished from his campus while role-playing as his Dungeons & Dragons character.

Hamm will play William Dear, a PI who investigates the case, opposite Wil Wheaton as beloved D&D creator Gary Gygax.

“The series follows Dear on his quest to find Dallas Egbert, a Michigan State student, who supposedly disappeared in the steam tunnels under his University while enacting a real-life version of D&D,” says the report.

“It was great to delve into the mystery of Dallas Egbert with this talented team and group of actors,” said Hamm, who recently received Emmy nominations for his work on both Fargo and The Morning Show.

“I’m excited for listeners to follow the journey of William Dear and immerse themselves in the series.”

“I’ve been obsessed with the disappearance of Dallas Egbert since I was a kid playing D&D,” said series creator David Kushner.

“When I was interviewing the game’s co-creator Gary Gygax for Wired, he told me how influential Dallas’s disappearance was on the game.

I always thought the real story of William Dear’s search for Dallas would be an amazing way to immerse people into the world of the game and the gamers who play it.”
