Jon Hamm is set to star in and produce a new action series titled American Hostage, which is based on the hit podcast that Hamm also was a part of. Producer Shawn Ryan (S.W.A.T., The Night Agent) is developing the series.
The project is described as a “psychological thriller that tells the harrowing true story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker, Tony Kiritsis, demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.”
Hamm will reprise his podcast role as Heckman in the series. The show was written by Mad Dogs writers Ryan and Eileen Myers before the writers’ strike. It’s explained that Ryan “envisions the series as an anthology, which will focus on a different hostage case each season.”
This seems like it will make for a great series and the perfect project for Hamm to be a part of. Hamm really needs and deserves a great role, and this seems like it’s what he needs.
