The Bachelor season 28 leading man Joey Graziadei was very careful when it came to handling his Fantasy Suite overnight dates, and went into his season with a plan. Joey, a 28-year-old tennis pro from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, got his start as the runner-up on Charity Lawson’s Bachelorette season. After his Fantasy Suite date with Charity, he was confident enough in their relationship that he was ready to propose. However, Charity broke up with him to get engaged to Dotun Olubeko. As Joey began his own journey, he had to consider how he would deal with the Fantasy Suites.

In an interview with E! News, The Bachelor season 28 star Joey revealed that he was warned about how much buzz the Fantasy Suite dates receive on social media and more. He also said, “I think from being in the role, now the big thing is I can’t fault anyone.” Joey explained that during the Fantasy Suites, he tried his best to “be aware that I was going to hopefully be watching this back with my forever person.” Therefore, his strategy was that he “just tried to make decisions that I could explain, and things that I felt like would stay in tune with who I am as a person.”

Joey Graziadei’s Bachelor Season 28 Journey So Far

Joey added that he made sure to have conversations about the expectations for the Fantasy Suites with each of the women, recognizing that “that’s as much a night for me as it is for them. So for me, in general, I don’t get into specifics about any of that. That was between me and the women that were there.” So far, Joey’s Bachelor journey has been hopeful, as he met the 32 contestants on premiere night, and already has some strong connections with a few of them. As episode 2 approaches, Joey has narrowed down his group to 22 women.

It’s refreshing to hear that Joey has learned from the mistakes of past Bachelors, and kept his future wife in mind while participating in them. While the Fantasy Suites had at first been somewhat shrouded in mystery, with intimacy between the leads and the women alluded to, but never fully confirmed, in recent seasons this has changed. The Bachelor season 26 star Clayton Echard made the mistake of revealing that he’d been intimate with Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey, which caused a lot of anguish at what has now become known as The Rose Ceremony From Hell.

In addition, Zach Shallcross vowed that he wouldn’t be intimate with any of the women in the Fantasy Suites during The Bachelor season 27, but broke his promise with Gabi Elnicki. When Zach told his eventual fiancée, Kaity Biggar, about it, he didn’t seem to realize that he was also informing the whole world about his private moment with Gabi. The Fantasy Suites are a great opportunity for the Bachelor and his final women to spend some time off-camera. However, missteps in the past have turned them into nightmares. It’s fantastic to hear that Joey was very careful with his Fantasy Suites, and will hopefully keep the details of them private.

The Bachelor season 28 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
