Joe Biden Laments “Shrinkflation” In Social Media Super Bowl Spot

Joe Biden passed on a Super Bowl interview with host network CBS, but earlier today the White House released a social media spot in which the president lamented some of the actions of big brand advertisers.

“When buying snacks for the game you might have noticed one thing: Sports drinks bottles are smaller, bad of chips has fewer chips, but they are still charging us just as much,” Biden says in the spot, shot in the White House Family Theater. “As an ice cream lover, what makes me most angry is ice cream cartons have actually just shrunk in size, but not in price.”

“Some companies are trying to pull a fast one by shrinking the products little by little and hoping you won’t notice. Give me a break. The American public is tired of being played for suckers.”

“I’m calling on companies to put a stop to this.”

Shrinkflation is an actual issue, as companies have shrink the size of products in recent years, saving costs during a period of inflation. But many consumers don’t notice.

Biden is essentially using the bully pulpit to call out companies, and the video had almost 6 million views on X/Twitter.

The White House passed on Biden’s Super Bowl sit down, a decision that has had some second guessing among some Democrats in the wake of the release of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report that made mention of Biden’s “poor memory.” The White House has been pushing back on Hur for those comments, calling them inappropriate in a report focused on Biden’s handling of classified documents.
