Jax Taylor Reveals He’s Been Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder
Jax Taylor opened up about his weeks-long stint in a mental health facility in a lengthy and emotional post shared to his Instagram page on Monday.
Following estranged wife Brittany Cartwright‘s divorce filing last week, Jax, 45, looked back on the time he spent in treatment, revealing that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as he shared his thoughts on his future.
“A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself,” Jax began on September 2. “After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD.”
According to Jax, his diagnoses have been “a lot to process.”
“However[,] I’ve come home to my son with a [newfound] sense of peace,” he continued, signaling his three-year-old son Cruz Michael Cauchi. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it.”
Jax went on to thank those who have supported him amid his mental health challenges.
“Thank you everyone who has reached out in support and who also shared their own personal struggles with me. Your messages have helped me more than you know,” he stated.
After sharing the post, a number of Jax’s Pump Rules castmates and fellow Bravolebrities offered their support by “liking” his message.
After Brittany’s divorce filing last week, an insider told PEOPLE that while the decision to call it quits on her marriage wasn’t easy, Brittany knew it was something she “had to do for the best interest of herself and her son.”
“[She filed] in order to move forward and put a stop to this tumultuous cycle they’ve been living in,” the source shared. “There’s a lot that has transpired over the past few months that she could not look past. This decision wasn’t made lightly but she feels adamant that it was the right one.”
The Valley season two is expected to premiere on Bravo sometime later this year or early next year.
