Over this weekend in the DC-Virginia area, music goddess Janelle Monáe made a special announcement at the young comic book convention BlerdCon. Like other great musical luminaries before her such as Prince, DMC and Kiss, Monáe now joins the ranks of musicians who’ve ventured into the world of 4-color adventures with her new book Archandroid Graphic Novel: Chapter 1.
If you weren’t in the room, she posted the news on her Instagram account where attendees to the con were graced with copies of the graphic novel starring Monáe with writing by Chuck Lightning and illustrations by Chad Weatherford, which will be out later this year.

As of this writing this, there isn’t a synopsis for the book. Yet, Monáe isn’t a stranger to the Afrofuturist genre; being a self-described Blerd, having been on various sci-fi shows like Stargate: Universe and collaborating with writers like Eve L. Ewing, Danny Lore, and Sheree Renée Thomas for their sci-fi book The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories of Dirty Computer, graphic novels are a logical extension to this brilliant storytellers toolbox.
