James Gunn Says of the DCU Film Projects, “We’ll Never Put a Half-Assed Script in Production” — GeekTyrant

James Gunn recently offered an update on his upcoming DCU project slate, which is referred to as DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and not all of those projects are guaranteed to happen. The future of those projects all depends on the quality of the scripts.

in response to an IGN article headlined ‘James Gunn Assures Every Announced DCU Project Is Still Coming Despite Lack of Updates’, Gunn took to Threads saying:

“Just to clarify, I said everything we originally announced was still in development not that it’s still coming. That all depends on the scripts! We’ll never put a half-assed script in production just because it was announced.”

It makes me happy to hear that Gunn and his team won’t push a DC movie out just for the sake of releasing it. Gunn wants quality completed scripts on these projects before they go into production. This is something Marvel Studios has not done in the past, and in recent years that approach has not served them well.

Gunn is developing movies in a proper way, they way these movies should be developed, and as I’ve always said, it always starts with a strong story and script.

While DC has had a rough run with its movies, I’m rooting for Gunn and I hope that he is able to actually pull this off and make some great DC movies and shows!

Gunn and producer Peter Safran’s new slate of superhero movies and shows was first unveiled in early 2023. It kicks off this December with the animated series Creature Commandos, before 2025’s Superman marks the franchise’s first big-screen outing.

Other titles that were announced include The Brave and the Bold, a new Batman movie from It director Andy Muschietti, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock, and Peacemaker Season 2.

The slate also included a Swamp Thing movie with James Mangold directing, a Teen Titans movie, and a Wonder Woman spin-off TV show called Paradise Lost. Then there’s the Lanterns series.
