James Cameron Confirms Kate Winslet Will Return for AVATAR 3 and Teases a Time Jump in AVATAR 4 — GeekTyrant

Director James Cameron has checked in with People Magazine to give fans an update on his next sequel, Avatar 3. The filmmaker explained that “three is right on track” for its scheduled December 19, 2025 release.

“We did the capture on three and the live-action photography on three as an intermingled production with [Avatar: The Way of Water], and we even did part of movie four because our young characters are all going to have a big time jump in movie four,” Cameron explains.

The Oscar-winning Titanic director notes of the fourth installment, which is scheduled for release in 2029 will see a time jump in the story:

“We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back. And so the part where we come back is the part we haven’t shot yet. So we’ll start on that after three is released.”

As for what fans can expect from the third movie, Cameron confirms that Kate Winslet will return to reprise her role as Ronal. He also adds that Winslet “went to school” learning from “a husband and wife shaman practice” to master techniques she will employ in the next Avatar.

“When you see her [Winslet] doing that purification ritual to try to revive Kitty in the film and some of the stuff that she’s going to do in movie three, that’s based on actual practice.”

It’s cool to hear that Winslet will return to the franchise, and that she has poured so much work into her character. Are you looking forward to seeing the remaining Avatar films?
