Iron Man is hands down one of the wealthiest and most successful characters in all of comics, with his most significant “superpower” — money — recently being stripped away from him in part by a villain who knew exactly how to hit Tony where it hurts. Luckily for him, the tables have turned in his financial favor, with Iron Man officially getting his fortune back due to an unlikely X-Men ally, once again making Tony Stark Marvel’s richest hero.
One of the first superheroes to help the X-Men wage their war against the mutant-hating group known as Orchis, Tony Stark’s company, Stark Unlimited, was taken over by Kelvin Heng aka Feilong, during this time, with Tony’s patented Iron Man tech incorporated into the mutant-hunting robots known as Sentinels against his will.
Eventually taking the fight to Feilong, Iron Man, along with Rhodey, Magneto, and others, defeated Orchis, with The Invincible Iron Man #20 showing that, in the aftermath, Tony quite literally received a check for his troubles, courtesy of the telepathic mutant and his faux-wife, Emma Frost.

Iron Man Regains His Fortune After Emma Frost Gifts Him Billions of Dollars
The Invincible Iron Man #20 – 2024 (Gerry Duggan and Andrea Di Vito)
A moment seen after Tony tries to pitch Emma on why they should continue to be a power couple — despite it being faked for superhero reasons — it’s revealed that Emma isn’t currently present with Tony but is telepathically projecting herself into the room instead. Telling Tony she can’t be with him in any meaningful way, Emma leaves him an envelope with a check written out to him, saying that Emma believes Tony will “put those ones and zeroes to good use,” cheekily adding that she can’t wait to see all the brilliant ways Tony will “piss it all away.”
Admitting that it’s “more money than I’d had in years,” Tony takes his “couple billion dollars” out west and teases a potential West Coast Avengers reunion, making it clear this is a fresh start not just as an Avenger but as a person too. Yet the part that makes Tony’s rejuvenated bankroll status so perfect is not the money itself, but where Emma got it from. Revealing that Emma “used her mental powers and made the market work for her,” Emma faked trades and skimmed accounts to steal cash from several evildoers, including Roxxon, Tombstone, and even Doctor Doom!
Iron Man’s Future Is Brighter Than Ever Now That He Has Money Again
The fact that Emma went through all that to give Tony his wealth back shows just how much faith she has in a man whose company was weaponized into hurting mutantkind, with Emma believing that Tony’s returned riches will allow him to right all the wrongs he couldn’t before. Unfortunately, this issue acts as the final tale in this particular volume of The Invincible Iron Man, but since a brand new Iron Man series is in the cards for an October release, the options for what Tony Stark can and will use his newfound fortune for are truly endless.
