New digital comics platform Sweet Shop got a big boost with the announcement of its first publisher signing: Image Comics will have nearly 400 of its titles available on the Sweet Shop app when it launches this summer. Books will range from new and old creator-owned comics to licensed Skybound series like Transformers.
Kenny Meyers, owner of the app’s creator Sweet, said, “Image Comics publishes some of the absolute best comics in the business, with a model that is wonderful to creators. We are huge fans of the work they do, and couldn’t be more excited to release their titles for purchase day and date around the globe.”
Lorelei Bunjes, Image’s VP of Digital Strategy, adds, “We’re always looking for great ways to get our comics into readers’ hands, and Sweet Shop is shaping up to be an exciting new option. We’re thrilled to have so many incredible creator-owned titles available at launch.”
Among the titles coming to Sweet: new series including James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh’s Exquisite Corpses and Matthew Rosenberg and Stefano Landini’s We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us and Image perennials like Transformers, Spawn, Ghost Machine comics, Invincible, and The Walking Dead.
Sweet Shop is the digital comics component of Sweet, a suite of software services for both creators and readers. Meyers has been active in the digital comics realm for a while. Sweet Shop teased future availability on the platform, including manga and North American comics. The app will support vertical scrolling and both right-to-left and left-to-right reading.
Sweet Shop launches later this summer, but features can be previewed on their pre-launch site.
